The First Step

    Light reflects
    In bright wide eyes

    And out of eyes
    Connects--
         Arms, legs, toes, fingers...
    Eyes follow movement
         Hair, teeth, nose, nails...
    Eyes take them in.
    New extensions to use--
    To feel.

    Touch the surface
    Soft and warm--
    Feel life;
    Discover blood running
         Pulse racing,
              Lungs breathing,
    Fall--
    But get back up.
