Abel

Abel was the first victim of murder and the second son of Adam of Eve. We don't know much about him, but we know he gave his best to God. If that's all anyone can say about me when I'm gone, I would think it's perfect. Abel was the first martyr.

    Introduction

Disclaimer: Liberty taken with the depiction of Abel.
Please remember the Bible does not
specify a description for most individuals.
Abel was the younger brother of Cain and Adam and Eve's youngest son when he died. Abel was herdsman who tended flocks of sheep. He gives the better offerring to God, for which his brother Cain becomes jealous. In his jealous, Cain kills Abel, cutting his life short. Since it is not mentioned that he had a wife chances are high that he never married, however if is possible that he married but hadn't had children yet making it pointless to mention. We do know that he did not have children and thus his lineage died with him. The name Abel is from the Hebrew word Hevel or Havel, which means breath[1].

    Character

Abel is portrayed as a man of faith in New Testament references, though we do not glean much about him in Genesis. Verses in the New Testament confirm that God preferred Abel's sacrifice to Cain's because of Abel's faith.
