Angel of Agony
...Long ago...
In a beautiful young mind
Burned and destroyed,
There was a girl--
Fighting for every breath
Working for every dime,
Until the tart essence of nature
Withered the roots of her soul.
So the world was ugly,
She could be uglier.
Sour as a lemon inside
With smiles like lemonade,
She set out to shame the world
Destroy the bitter anguish
And cultivate delight--
The seed born of a broken heart.
She would plant it
In a field of forgotten dreams,
Replenish them with sweat and tears,
And bathe them in the light of hope.
Until it sprouted roots,
Stretched to the sky,
And grew.
