Turn Up
You reach for the the bottle,
Swirl a mysterious liquid
Turn it up and knock it back...
It may burn for a little
But then the pain is gone
And you forget what brought you here.
Lose yourself piece by piece
Burned away by by your release.
The world gets blurry,
Your eyes turn dark
Nothing is stationary,
Even if time stands still...
But just outside your fantasy,
On the other side of the bottle
The world is still crystal clear
Time ticking on without delay
And none of your problems have gone away.
Wake up, put the bottle down,
Suffer for a moment if you must--
Take a knee, relax a minute and wait,
Life is only seconds away,
Truth only a minute behind--
So wear yourself out swimming
Instead of letting yourself drown.
